Lenox Almond Biscotti

I grew up eating my grandmother's biscotti so I was looking forward to making this particular cookie.  As a kid I usually passed them up for something more chocolatey, but as I got older I enjoyed indulging in these at the holidays.  A bakery near me, owned by generations of an Italian family, makes one of the best almond biscotti I've had, so I am always looking for a recipe that will come close.

I made a couple changes in the spirit of fall, and added 1 teaspoon of cinnamon into the dough and also mixed in pumpkin pie spice to the melted white chocolate which added little warm flecks.  I figured the white chocolate would get my son to try the cookies.  No such luck!  While I loved the flavor of the cinnamon-y biscotti, the cornmeal added to this particular recipe just didn't work for me.  I felt like I needed to chew constantly just to get past those little bits! On the other hand my husband thought they were delicious and the cornmeal didn't seem to bother him at all.  These biscotti just were not what I was looking for and I think I will just stick to my usual recipe from my grandmother and maybe play around from there.  But they definitely did not go to waste with hubby around!

A big Thank You to Lisa of Jersey Girl Cooks for this adorable award!

I'm sorry these weren't your favorite, but the pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon and white chocolate are such good ideas...and nothing could (or should) be better than your grandmother's recipe. Bridget, by the way, I meant to tell you that I thought your pork tenderloin and fig recipe sounded fantastic...and I just got an email from Stonewall Kitchen featuring more fig products and fig recipes. I thought you might like to check it out (www.stonewallkitchen.com). I made a stop at their store in Maine last summer...that was such a treat. I love their products.

I'm impressed by how perfectly smooth your biscotti appear to be in the picture. I love the idea of white chocolate. I guess chocolate of any color works, right?

Sorry that you didn't love these, Bridgett. They look beautiful, though! I love the pumpkin pie spice idea -- maybe you can find a way to make them without cornmeal? But hey, it sounds like you already have THE perfect biscotti recipe, so you should be well-set in the biscotti department (and I'll be eager to see your grandmother's recipe if you ever feel like sharing it!)

Your biscotti look amazingly delicious! I am wishing that we would have kept a few, but we sent them all off. I would love to see your Grandmother's recipe. I might even be brave enough to try it, now that I know biscotti is nothing to be afraid of.

I'm going to join the chorus pleading for a glimpse of grandma's biscotti perfection! Your biscotti look great, but I can understand how it would be hard to get used to such a different recipe when you've had the "best."

i've said it before, and i'm sure i'll say it again--biscotti needs to be dipped in some chocolate. if it's not, i stubbornly refuse to eat it. :) the cinnamon is a touch after my own heart. :):)

Wonderful Bridgett. You were smart to add in the pumpkin spice to the melted white chocolate.
This is a good pairing with a hot latte (I know you love Illy coffee as do I).

I went out and bought some biscotti just the other day. I tend to be a fan of the chocolate varieties. Your look delicious, though!

I do have to say.... Even though they took a huge second to your G-Ma's recipe, they look scrumptious! Thanks for stopping by!! I will definitely visit your blog again! I Love it!!

Well, they look beautiful! Glad your hubby ate them! I grew up eating a biscotti that was softer texture; I think my grandma called them biscotti sponge cookies. Have you ever heard of those? I haven't had them since I was a kid, but I loved the softer (but not soft) texture. YUM!.

Gigi said...

I'm with you...the biscotti I've made with cornmeal just didn't knock my socks off. Sure looks pretty though!

Aggie said...

Sorry the recipe didn't work as well as you thought, it's hard to compete with a grandmother's recipe isn't it? They still look fantastic, especially dipped in that chocolate!
I love biscotti and made my first ones a couple of years ago, it was Giada's recipe and they had pistachios and cranberries in them and they were delish!!
